Summer is almost over - that’s the bad news. The good news is that starting September 7th, the library will once again be open Sundays from 1-5. We’re looking forward  to seeing you here on Sunday afternoons in the fall!

I hope you’ve all noticed our brand new outdoor sign at the library. It’s back lighted, and we’re going to use it as another way to keep you all informed about what’s happening here at the library. Keep an eye out for it!

I want to be sure that you all know the library is closed on Friday, July 4th and Saturday, July 5th in observance of Independence Day. Enjoy your holiday!

Today and tomorrow our Friends of the Library are holding their annual used book sale. Come snap up the bargains while they last!

Hi Everyone. I need your thoughts on something, please. Right now we lend videos and DVDs for three days, with no renewals. A few folks have asked that we extend the loan period on these items to five days, and there may be more who feel the same way, but haven’t said anything.. I just don’t know.

The shorter loan period allows for faster turnover of the items, and puts them back on the shelf for new borrowers faster.  A longer loan period would allow you to keep items longer, but would mean you might have to wait longer to get something you want to watch.

Can I ask you to comment and let me know how you feel about this, please? Thanks!

Summer Reading Kickoff Party time, that is! Come join us from 12-4 on Saturday the 14th, for our all ages party. There will be goodies, crafts, and a special performance by the Wiggleworms from the Old Town School of Folk Music. A good time is guaranteed, plus you can sign up for our Summer Reading Program, which starts that very day.

June 17th at 10 AM, we’re sponsoring a presentation on “Finding Help” by the people from Age Options in Oak Park. This program is especially for seniors and those who care for them. Come get information on the many benefits and services available to seniors. Call the library at 366-7171 to register for this free program, or drop by the front desk to put your name on the list. We hope to see you there!

Ravinia has graciously provided free lawn tickets again this year. Forest Park Public Library card holders may take two tickets each while supplies last. The tickets and a calendar of performances are at the library front desk. Hurry in while supplies last!

Don’t forget that we have a great selection of Cliff’s Notes, and other similar study aides! You can find them in boxed sets on display near the DVD’s on our main level.
